Creating a pool of racing talent for teams to choose from
The E1 pilot academy will help equip contenders for a race seat with the skills required to succeed as a pilot. The pilot academy will be led by respected Olympic performance coach Dan Hunt, who will help identify and recruit athletes from diverse backgrounds across multiple sporting disciplines. Those who display transferable skills applicable to racing on water will be added to a ‘pilot pool’, which teams can use to select from when choosing their line-up.
How you can become an E1 pilot
Candidates who are selected for the pilot academy will be put through their paces in a series of tests to see whether they have what it takes to become an E1 pilot. Olympic performance coach Dan Hunt will head up the training programme together with powerboat legends Steve Curtis, Shelley Jory-Leigh and Shaun Torrente.
The trio bring with them unrivalled experience and a winning mentality on the water, having won multiple powerboat championships over the years. The training sessions will take place at various testing sites and willl inlclude safety and fitness training, as well as offering the chance to drive different types of watercraft.

E1 has brought Olympic performance coach Dan Hunt on board to help with scouting and training prospective pilots. The main aim of the E1 pilot academy is to find and recruit pilots from a diverse range of backgrounds and help them get up to speed for the first season of racing in 2023.
Hunt already has a proven track record of setting up elite performance programmes and academies, having been embedded inside some of the most successful sports teams and organisations. He brings with him a vast amount of knowledge and experience in talent transfer that will be applied throughout the entire pilot recruitment process.
